Seattle Counseling Service is a community resource that advocates, educates and serves to advance the social well being and mental health of the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender communities.

Our History

Seattle Counseling Service was founded in 1969 as a grassroots, volunteer-driven "help" line and drop in center. As the first agency of its kind dedicated specifically to the needs of the LGBT communities, Seattle Counseling Service has pioneered service by and for our community. Our Staff

Seattle Counseling Service staff members are dedicated to helping LGBT clients live happy and healthy lives. We believe that our community deserves high-quality care, and we are proud to offer clients one of the best trained and most experienced staff of any agency of its kind. Clinical staff includes psychiatrists, licensed mental health and chemical dependency professionals, clinical social workers, and masters-level interns under licensed supervision. Key Staff

Our Board of Directors is made up of community members who care deeply about clients' well-being and the financial and organizational strength of Seattle Counseling Services. Our Funding

Seattle Counseling Service is IRS-designated 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. We receive funding from a variety of sources including individual donations, private foundation grants, client fees, the United Way of King County , and the City of Seattle, King County and Washington State grants and contracts. Masters Level Internship

For over twenty-five years Seattle Counseling Service has offered a Masters level internship that has developed into one of the most rigorous and rewarding internships in the Pacific Northwest. This one year program for second year students in either applied psychology, counseling or social work provides the intern with a thorough knowledge of how to work with and use the DSM-IV, how mental health agencies work and how to work in them, exposure to experts/mentors in all areas of mental health specific to the LGBTQI community. Peer Support Specialist Internship

Our Peer Support Specialist Internship is an unpaid, six-month long internship that provides the opportunity to work as a staff team member in providing support for LGBTQ consumers. This is a chance for the Peer Specialist to build relevant experience for their resumes by working directly with consumers. Read more...
